Living in Vail, Colorado, we frequently get asked questions about things to do and see. If you have followed along with us, you may have already read our 10 Secrets of a Vail Local. Those tips only graze the surface of exploring and embracing this incredible place we are privileged to call home. To be honest, there are so many fun and unique things to do in Vail that it is hard to narrow down our suggestions.

Vail has so much to offer besides skiing. There are, of course, other sports to keep you occupied, no matter the season. In winter, nordic skiing and snowshoeing. In summer, hiking and mountain biking. Just to name a few. But even for the non-athletic, Vail can be the perfect respite.

One of our favorite things to do in Vail is explore the villages. Lionshead Village boasts beautiful architecture, with intricately painted buildings in the style of European ski towns. Not far away, Vail Village, home to the renowned Bridge Street, has many paths to wander and get lost along, as well as shops to pop into. One of our best suggestions is to tour these two villages.

A selfie stick or tripod can make taking photos easier and include the whole family. If you don’t have one, don’t be afraid to ask someone to take a photo for you.

With our appreciation for the villages in mind, we have crafted a photo scavenger hunt to give visitors a self-guided adventure. If you are not familiar with the phrase, a photo scavenger hunt leads you through a particular place in search of a list of sights. Once you have found each one, you take a photo as proof. You can do this as one family, or team up and make it a competition. Each team takes a list and whichever team returns with all of the photo evidence first wins.

A photo scavenger hunt can inspire you and your family to look closer at your surroundings, to take in things you might have over-looked before. Not only that, but you will spend a memorable and well-documented afternoon together. We suggest that you take a couple of hours to complete this scavenger hunt, and that you try to take decent pictures. That way, once you are finished and back home from your trip, you can turn the photos into a keepsake or professional-looking photo book.
